WASHINGTON — The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency today announced that David K. Wilson will become the Senior Deputy Comptroller for Bank Supervision Policy and Chief National Bank Examiner on July 1, 2011. He will succeed Tim Long, who will be retiring at the end of June.
In this role, Mr. Wilson will chair the agency's Committee on Bank Supervision, direct the formulation of policies and procedures for supervision and examination of national banks, and serve as member of the OCC's Executive Committee.
"Dave is well respected throughout the OCC," said acting Comptroller of the Currency John Walsh. "He has the skills and experience needed to continue the important work of policy formulation for the agency during this critical time when we are implementing the Dodd-Frank Act."
Mr. Wilson brings nearly 30 years of experience to this role. He has held a variety of important leadership roles at the OCC including Large Bank Examiner-in-Charge, Large Bank Credit Team Leader, and most recently Deputy Comptroller for Credit and Market Risk. In 2008, he was named a Senior National Bank Examiner, a title reserved for a small number of examiners who have distinguished themselves through exceptionally high-quality performance on bank supervision issues of systemic importance. In addition to broad experience in bank supervision at all levels of the OCC, Mr. Wilson also gained private sector experience during his four-year tenure at First Interstate Bancorp as a Regional Credit Review Manager and then as Executive Vice President and Senior Credit Review Officer.
Mr. Long is retiring after 32 years at the OCC.
"Tim brought great energy, experience, knowledge and passion for the agency and its mission to everything he did," Mr. Walsh said. "He provided strong leadership during the financial crisis, where his judgment and experience proved essential as we dealt with some of the most difficult challenges to the national banking system since the Great Depression."
Mr. Long held a number of positions at the OCC including Examiner-In-Charge for both Wells Fargo Bank and NationsBank, Deputy Comptroller for Large Bank Supervision, Senior Deputy Comptroller for Midsize/Community Bank Supervision, Senior Deputy Comptroller for Policy, and Chief National Bank Examiner.
