WASHINGTON — Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry today named Larry Hattix the agency's Senior Deputy Comptroller for Enterprise Governance and Ombudsman.
In this new and elevated role, Mr. Hattix will be a member of the Office of the Comptroller of Currency’s Executive Committee. He oversees the agency’s enterprise governance function, national bank and savings association appeals program, and the agency’s customer assistance group.
“Larry has played a critical leadership role at the OCC since taking over as Ombudsman in January of 2008,” said Comptroller Curry. “This promotion and the elevation of the enterprise governance function reflect the growing realization that enterprise governance is a key part of moving our agency forward.”
“Since becoming Comptroller in April 2012, I have spoken frequently about the growing operational risk facing financial institutions and the importance of a mature and effective risk management program. Effectively managing operational risk is important to our agency as well,” Mr. Curry said. “Elevating enterprise governance to the agency’s Executive Committee demonstrates my commitment to ensuring that we follow the same high standards we set for the institutions we supervise, and to governing our agency effectively so it can succeed in its mission of ensuring banks and savings associations operate in a safe, sound, and fair manner.”
Before becoming Ombudsman for the agency in 2008, Mr. Hattix served as Assistant Deputy Comptroller for the Cincinnati/Columbus Field Office since 2003, where he directly supervised 40 banks. He became a Specialist in Bank Information Systems in 1996, a BIS Lead Expert in July 2000, and was commissioned a National Bank Examiner in March 1994, with a specialty in Consumer and Community Reinvestment Act compliance. Mr. Hattix joined the OCC in 1988 as an Assistant National Bank Examiner in the Deerfield, Illinois Duty Station, after graduating from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, with a degree in business administration-finance.
