WASHINGTON — The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will host two workshops in Seattle at the Westin Seattle, July 8-9, for directors of national community banks and federal savings associations.
The “Risk Assessment” and “Credit Risk” workshops are designed exclusively for directors of institutions supervised by the OCC. Both workshops are taught by experienced OCC supervision staff.
The risk assessment workshop discusses the OCC’s approach to risk-based supervision, and best practices to identify, measure, monitor and control risk. Focus areas include enterprise risk management, operational risk, and cybersecurity.
“For bank directors who want to know more about their risks, and the breadth and depth of those risks, this workshop is perfect,” said Chris Dunn, Assistant Deputy Comptroller in the Little Rock, Ark., office and Risk Assessment Instructor. “In addition to prepared course materials, we discuss the most challenging risks facing workshop participants at their institutions and the risk management systems they should employ. We tailor the program to meet their key risks, their expectations.”
The credit risk workshop focuses on the roles of the board and bank management, current events, emerging industry trends, and a range of credit issues, from the credit approval process, to managing credit risk, to collections.
“The workshop offers solid training for new bank directors, and is a good refresher for more experienced ones, on how to establish and maintain a good credit culture in an institution," said Kyle Jones, Assistant Deputy Comptroller in the Oklahoma City office and Credit Risk Instructor. "The goal is to improve a director’s ability to effect credit risk and credit risk management in their institution."
The fee is $99 for each workshop. Participants receive a pre-workshop reading package and course materials, and assorted supervisory publications. Each workshop is limited to the first 35 registrants.
The workshops are among 35 being offered nationwide to enhance and expand the skills of national community bank and federal savings association directors.
