This booklet addresses the risks associated with installment lending. It discusses risk management practices and regulatory requirements regarding installment lending. This booklet is one of several specialized lending booklets and supplements the information in the "Loan Portfolio Management," "Large Bank Supervision," and "Community Bank Supervision" booklets of the Comptroller's Handbook. This booklet only addresses closed-end consumer credit. For information related to open-end credit, refer to the "Credit Card Lending" and "Residential Real Estate Lending" booklets of the Comptroller's Handbook.
This booklet applies to the OCC's supervision of national banks and federal savings associations. References to national banks in this booklet also generally apply to federal branches and agencies of foreign banking organizations. Refer to 12 USC 3102(b) and the "Federal Branches and Agencies Supervision" booklet of the Comptroller's Handbook for more information.
