Sean Lewis-Faupel is a Lead Economic Expert within Economics & Risk Analysis at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
Dr. Lewis-Faupel joined the OCC in 2016. He serves as a leading authority on complex quantitative methods and model risk for the agency’s fair lending, Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering, and related bank supervision. His work includes a focus on assessing the benefits and risks that arise from banks’ use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and novel credit data. His expertise in these areas, as well as in statistical analysis and labor economics, also frequently informs the agency’s policy efforts. In addition, Dr. Lewis-Faupel produces research on topics such as credit access, wages, housing, and education with a focus on the impact of neighborhoods, demographics, and social interactions. He also studies the microeconomic effects of new technology on banking and other industries.
Dr. Lewis-Faupel holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University.
