WASHINGTON — Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry today designated Michael Brickman as Deputy Comptroller for Thrift Supervision.
In this role, Mr. Brickman will serve as the agency’s focal point for the supervision of federal savings associations, while ensuring a balanced, consistent interpretation and application of supervisory policies to the thrift industry. Mr. Brickman will be supported by a new Senior Advisor for Thrift Supervision in Washington, D.C. In addition to these responsibilities supporting the supervision of thrifts, Mr. Brickman will continue to fulfill his responsibilities as Deputy Comptroller for Special Supervision. He reports to the Senior Deputy Comptroller for Midsize and Community Bank Supervision Toney Bland.
“Mike has spent the majority of his career supervising federal savings associations. He is familiar with their needs, the business model, and the impact effective supervision can make on the industry,” said Mr. Bland. “Thrifts play an important role in the federal banking system today and Michael’s focus and experience in this area will help ensure thrifts operate in a safe and sound manner while meeting the needs of their communities.”
Mr. Brickman began his federal regulatory career with the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) as an examiner in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1998. He held a variety of positions at the OTS, including Senior Advisor to the Managing Director of Supervision and Director for Regional Activities, which included oversight of large and problem federal savings associations.
Mr. Brickman joined the OCC in 2011 as a Director for Special Supervision and has worked supporting the supervision of national banks and federal savings associations as Acting Associate Deputy Comptroller for the Southern District, Associate Deputy Comptroller in Midsize Bank Supervision, and on national projects, addressing the OCC’s matters requiring attention policy and examiner rotations program.
Mr. Brickman holds a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
The Deputy Comptroller for Thrift Supervision is a title created and required by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. Mr. Brickman succeeds Donna Deale, who is retiring from the OCC.
