WASHINGTON — Michael Brickman today was named to be Deputy Comptroller for Special Supervision at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
As Deputy Comptroller of Special Supervision, Mr. Brickman will oversee the supervision of the OCC's most critical problem midsize and community banks as well as the development and implementation of rehabilitation or resolution strategies for assigned banks and savings associations, including the orderly management of closings, when necessary. His group also supervises the OCC Headquarters-based fraud specialists and their activities.
“Mike possesses strong skills and experience and is a great addition to the senior leadership of the OCC,” said Senior Deputy Comptroller for Midsize and Community Bank Supervision Toney Bland.
Mr. Brickman began his federal regulatory career with the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) as an examiner in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1998. At the OTS, he held a variety of positions, including Conglomerate Examiner—Complex and International Organizations, Senior Advisor to the Managing Director of Supervision, and Director for Regional Activities, which included oversight of large and problem federal savings associations.
In 2011, Mr. Brickman joined the OCC as a Director for Special Supervision, where he led a staff of problem bank specialists, oversaw a portfolio of problem banks and thrifts, and represented the OCC at interagency meetings. He has also worked as an Acting Associate Deputy Comptroller for the Southern District and on national projects, addressing the OCC’s matters requiring attention policy and examiner rotations program. He currently serves as an Associate Deputy Comptroller for Midsize Bank Supervision.
Mr. Brickman holds a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
Mr. Brickman will succeed Kristina B. Whittaker, who will retire from the OCC in February.
